Prep Cook
The Prep Cook prepares food in the kitchen in Anchorage to be stocked aboard the Wilderness Express railcars. This role is also responsible for receiving deliveries.
Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Prepares food for the railcars according to standardized recipes
Maintains par levels of prepped and non-prepped items
Receives daily deliveries
Ensures the cleanliness and sanitation of the prep kitchen
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates for the Prep Cook position must meet the following criteria in order to be considered as an applicant:
Be 18 years of age prior to May 1, 2010
Be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs
Have experience and a thorough knowledge of food preparation techniques
Possess a current Food Manager certification (training will be provided)
Be able to travel onboard railcars and overnight in Fairbanks when needed
Be willing to submit to a pre-employment drug test
Be a U.S. citizen or show proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
Be able to work a full season (mid-May to mid-September)
Be able to work with minimum supervision
Training Timeline
Once hired, all candidates will receive a thorough training program starting in May.
Housing
Employees are responsible for their own housing. If traveling on board the train, RCT will provide dorm style, company housing in Fairbanks. Out-of-state employees are responsible for providing their own transportation to Alaska and housing while in Anchorage.
Wages & Bonuses
First year Prep Cooks $12.00/hour
Employees will be eligible for a bonus of 10% of gross wages upon completion of their contract.
Typically the work schedule is part-time, approximately 20-25 hours per week.

After successful completion of a full season contract RCT employees are eligible for a cruise on Royal Caribbean or Celebrity Cruise Lines at a highly discounted employee rate.
